  • 这两个词都可译为“羡慕”,但含义并不相同:envy不仅含有“羡慕别人所拥有的东西或品质”的意思,而且进一步有“我也要拥有”的含义。例如:

  • [误] How I admire you!I wish I could make my hair curl like that.
  • [正] How I envy you! I wish I could make my hair curl like that.
  • 本句所羡慕的只是那一头卷发,并不见得钦佩那个有一头卷发的人,而且明确表示“希望能有”,故用envy。

  • 这两个词都是“称赞”“夸奖”的意思,且都可用于admire sb for sth 句型。其差别在于:praise是普通用语,而admire带有感叹意味。另外, praise可用于上级对下级的称赞,而admire则多用于平等者。
